About
About BitcoinII
BitcoinII is, in its whitepaper’s words, “a faithful re-deployment of the original protocol”: Bitcoin’s rules and proof of work, started again on a new network from a clean genesis block, with no premine.
Alongside Bitcoin, not against it
“BitcoinII does not ask users to abandon Bitcoin.” The whitepaper describes it as “not competition to Bitcoin, but complement: a second option, based on the same protocol”. It is “not a fork of the Bitcoin chain, not a sidechain, and not a derivative token”, and holding BTC does not give you BC2. The project’s developers describe it as a sister chain. We respect Bitcoin; BitcoinII exists next to it.
A second chance at the early days
The whitepaper calls BitcoinII “a second chance for those who missed Bitcoin’s earliest days”. That is about timing. On a young network you can run one of its early nodes, mine its early blocks, and watch it grow toward its first halving. It shares the purpose the whitepaper sets out: “Bitcoin’s original purpose as a borderless, censorship resistant, inflation proof, responsible monetary system”.
A practical place to learn
BitcoinII is also a good place to learn Bitcoin skills by doing them: holding your own keys, using the Core wallet, encrypting and backing it up, cold storage, running a full node and mining. It uses the same tools and address formats as Bitcoin, so what you learn carries over. As the whitepaper puts it, the “knowledge and tools built for Bitcoin can be applied seamlessly to BitcoinII.”
Money, not data
BitcoinII keeps block space for payments. Since block 57,750, consensus rules limit arbitrary data in transactions. See the details.
Built by its community
BitcoinII has no company, central issuer or foundation. The software is developed on GitHub, and this website is built and maintained by volunteers who believe in the project. The community kept the chain running through difficult early periods and continues to build.
To be clear
BitcoinII is not Bitcoin (BTC). BC2 addresses look identical to Bitcoin addresses, so always confirm the network before sending. Nothing on this site is investment advice. For the technical details, read What is BitcoinII? or the whitepaper.
Get involved
BC2 is secured by the people who use it. Mining, even with a single small SHA-256 miner, is the most direct way to strengthen the network.
